During the Renaissance, rings and pendants with poetic inscriptions (poesies) cast into their design were given as wedding bands, lover's promises or as a means of showing regard. Legend has it that words touching the skin can make the inscribed wish come true. These, cast using the ancient "lost-wax" process, are inscribed with De M'amour Soiez (Of my love be sure).
