These classic, three-arm protractors, vintage '60s-'80s and straight off decommissioned warships, operate using the principle of landmark triangulation. They were a primary back-up method of determining a ship's position during the Cold War. (Navigators trained to use them in the event of nuclear electromagnetic pulse or when all the fancy, high-tech equipment was otherwise unavailable.) Intricately machined chrome steel over brass frame with dual micrometer knobs for precision adjustments. Serial numbered. Protractors in used/exceptional condition (dovetail wooden cases really did their duty protecting the instruments inside). 23" tall.
